PENN STATE FORWARD LAMAR STEVENS NAMED BIG TEN PLAYER OF THE WEEK


n the heels of the program's first AP Poll ranking since 1996, Penn State basketball got another little bit of excellent news on Monday. Senior forward Lamar Stevens was named the large Ten's Player of the Week. 

Stevens moved into fourth on the all-time Penn State scoring list during the Nittany Lions' upset over then No. 4 Maryland. He tied with fellow senior Mike Watkins for the team lead with 15 points over the Terrapins, while adding 10 rebounds, four assists, and two blocks. 

Against Alabama, the Lions turned to their senior leader down the stretch to steer a comeback over the Crimson Tide. He led all scorers (along with teammate Curtis Jones) with 18 points, 13 of which came within the last half. Stevens chipped in 11 more rebounds, six assists, and five blocks to round out a powerful week.

This is Penn State's first weekly Big Ten honor of the season, and therefore the first Player of the Week award for Stevens. He was honored because the Freshman of the Week in February of 2017. 

Penn State is off until Friday evening, when the No. 23 Nittany Lions will combat Central Connecticut State within the Jordan Center. the sport tips at 6:00 p.m. and can air on BTN.
