Red hot head-on crash leaves 1 dead, sends 1 to neighborhood medical clinic 

A red hot head-on crash Friday evening on a country McLennan County street including a Volkswagen Jetta and a Chevrolet Equinox left one driver dead and sent another by a nearby emergency clinic in basic condition. 

The mishap was accounted for at around 5:30 p.m. Friday in the 500 square of Heritage Parkway south of Olive Branch Road north of Axtell. 

The VW was northbound on Heritage Parkway when it veered into the southbound path and slammed into the SUV, which burst into flares, Department of Public Safety Sgt. Ryan Howard said. 

The driver of the VW passed on at the scene. 

The driver of the SUV was traveled to Baylor Scott and White Medical Center in Waco. 

The names of the unfortunate casualties weren't quickly discharged. 

The mishap is under scrutiny. 

Legacy Parkway in the zone of the mishap was shut to traffic.
