n the not too distant past, a game against Central Connecticut State could have spelled trouble for Penn State basketball. A buy-game with no hype, this seemed like a spot where the Nittany Lions might sleepwalk through a half. That was never the case Friday night because the Lions cruised to an 87-58 convert Donyell Marshall's Blue Devils.
Penn State absolutely sizzled hitting their first 12 shots, including 5/5 from three-point range. Central Connecticut would never meet up with than 15 points, and Pat Chambers was ready to empty his bench with nearly eight minutes remaining within the game.
Ten players scored for Penn State with Myreon Jones leading all scorers with 21. Izaiah Brockington added 11 off the bench, Lamar Stevens chipped in 10, and Mike Watkins added 8 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 blocks. Watkins broke the 1,000 point mark for his career, the 37th Nittany Lion to ever reach the milestone. he's just the third player in class history with 1,000 points and 800 rebounds. Greg Outlaw led the way for the outmatched Blue Devils with 14 points.
Penn State hosts Cornell on Sunday, Dec. 29 at noon (ESPNU) within the season's final non-conference tune-up. The Lions will entertain Iowa and therefore the nation's No. 1 KenPom offense at the Palestra in Philadelphia on Saturday, Jan. 4.
Until then, enjoy these dunks from Stevens:
